CCR Reflection (Music Video)

Image
Spencer Dalis   Recording the Yon Yonson music video was certainly a challenge. Looking back on everything I did will help see what impacts my efforts lead to.  The first thing that should be looked at when reflecting upon media is how it challenged conventions. A normal folk song is meant to be entertaining so I really wanted to try to encapsulate that in the music video. I think just adding in clips made it different from the usual convention of folk music however. For the most part I followed the formula of the folk song video to a tee. I played an instrument, wore the clothes of a lumberjack and acted like one as well. All these things helped me follow the conventions of a folk song. I'm quite proud of how well I followed the conventions although I admit it would have been more interesting to change up the meaning of a folk song.  The next question that is asked in a reflection is if and how the video would tackle or represent social issues. This question is basically asking i

Here it is, the Yon Yonson music video. After quite a bit of recording and editing the video is finally here to watch. The video is basically a 20 second song looping with slight differences each time. The first time I play the ukulele in the first scene and lip sync the words of the song. After that I use a clip of a passerby asking for Yon Yonson's name.  The kind stranger who asks for Yon Yonson's name is none other than Barack Obama! Due to the lack of actors available for recording I could not do the street passerby scene. As a replacement for this I used video clips from other media and tried to lip sync them with the song lyrics. Unfortunately the lip syncing wasn't perfect due to time constraints, but It worked well enough. In the next scene I play the accordion in the same basic position as the first scene. If you couldn't tell from me playing the ukulele, you could definitely tell that I don't have musical talent from how I played the accordion. Althoug

Editing Blog (Music Video)

Today was the day when I put in the most effort. Not only did I edit the footage recorded earlier, but I also recorded new footage to improve the quality. Today was a rough schedule since I wanted to record some scenes as well as edit all the footage together. Even with these struggles I managed to somehow fully finish the music video today. One thing I changed from my original storyboard was the "Walking by the street" scene where Yon Yonson met a passerby on the street. Originally I was going to use an actor for this but due to "budget cuts" I couldn't get anyone to join in on the video. As a replacement I added notable celebrities and made them ask "what's your name?". It was really fun to see myself talking to Barack Obama to the tune of Yon Yonson. This definitely made for a humorous video since It was more laid back than the commercial video. Without the need to advertise I had a lot more freedom with editing the clips together. As said bef

Recording Blog 2 (Music Video)

Today I began the first part of my recording. My overall plan today was to get the first half of the video recorded before writing this  blog. I'm happy to report that this plan was an overall success. About 40% of the video content was recorded in this sitting and Ill finish the rest in the next few days depending on how things are. The first part I recorded was the beginning I did this since it was the easiest. The setting for this was my yard which made it easy to go and record footage there. For these scenes nothing special happened here. I mostly just acted out what the lyrics of the song say since, that helps tell the story. I think I could put some more work into making the video funnier with editing but that's for another time. The conditions for recording weren't perfect due to the weather here but it was manageable and I think this first scene went quite well. Unfortunately due to the winter climate and weather  the lighting during the video isn't the great

NEW Storyboard Blog (Music Video)

Storyboard Blog (Redo) This is the storyboard for my next project, the Yon Yonson Music Video. Now with 12 whole panels instead of 6 which each have been colored and highly detailed for your viewing pleasure. Instead of one pretty simplistic comic this storyboard is 2 pages of art in its finest form. The story begins with an introduction to our main character Yon Yonson who waves and says hello. The next panel introduces his name with a quite convenient sign saying just that. This is done to compliment the lyrics of the song where the first thing he does is introduce his name. Going to the next line of the song is "I come from Wisconsin" which is shown in the 3rd panel where he points to his location on a map. This is done mostly just to fit with the song, although it isn't completely neccicarily. The next 4 panels also correlate with the song. In the first you see Yon Yonson cutting lumber. This derives from the lyric "I work as a lumberjack there".  After that
